Till when in the wind
Some thoughts would just not leave my bone.
Like parasites, they nibble and gnaw
persistently off their dwelling zone.
If it's a picture that they draw
I am being colored in a barren tone.
I enter a restaurant. I withdraw
to a glass of liquor. And I condone
the traditional dish's obvious flaw.
There's nothing else I could have done.
I'm in a town of dubious origin
and poisoning myself with a familiar toxin.
I leave the glass futilely refilled,
I greet the wind and its sharpened blade.
I love this wind. it's blue and chilled.
It has a texture torn and frayed
and its desires are unfulfilled.
I walk outside its barricade
and meet fireflies in the open field.
They blink in their ignored charade
then burn themselves with a combustible yield.
They cannot be found elsewhere in nature
except in this town of a dubious future.
I wonder when my parasites, too
would incinerate my flesh and its trace.
Till when in the wind in the twilight blue
will I be tending this wasted place?
morning comes, and night is through.
I go to the mirror, in its space
a man who's scared without a clue
is putting on his scary face.
