Sonnet for a Befallen Petal
- at the passing of Yoo H.K.

The blooming season cruelly comes and goes
But blessed are the flowers that have seen
the fruits their labour bore, and how they pose
beneath the moonlit boughs they once had been

Accept the truth that all the good die young
Unnoticed names would fill the grieving ground
Their deeds unprinted, and their songs unsung
The lingering sweetness of their dreams abound

And if I praise them with a flattering tongue
I'd fail to see the life and catch its sound
So when on branches thousand flags are hung
Be calm, although our anger knows no bound

The missing of a bee distressed the hive
Your early absence rains on us alive
