Well, I still agree with my friend that Sting's songs are not the best kind a parent would recommend to a middle school child. I know very well that it was out of care that he pointed that out to me. And that's why I felt I'd better flag this little exchange here and let known that the song wasn't really my choice. (For others who would similarly care about us, that is.)
And I agree with you, too, in that it is not without a sense of awe that I watch my youngster enjoy this mature song, knowing all too well that years later he will sing this song again but only with a mixed feeling. (Been there, done that, myself.) I had always thought that growing up was nothing but pain. But from a parent's perspective, I cannot but admit that the whole process does have some mysterious and miraculous traits as well. Hey, maybe I am the one who still needs to grow up!
